  • Super Cup was a good idea, and should continue.
  • great racers.
  • great racers.

  • Courses
  • Solid schedule and decent payout for supercup.
  • Great weather, great courses with higher average speeds.
  • Various styles of courses and weather
  • Good event planning
  • There were some good quality events it seemed.
  • Single speed race followed the masters race! This was huge for me
  • Racing my bike
  • New racing schedule, the Supercut races, and a few new course. A few suggestions that I would make: 1. make Lake Geneva a two day race given its usually the first race of the season for both WI and IL, more racing=more racers=more revenue. 2. add new courses or change old courses like Sheboygan or Washington Park. 3. Make the Supercup races more worth it to race (i.e get a couple sponsors to sponsor the race/series prizes for the season)
  • My team
  • I love that there is a women’s masters category! I’m also impressed with how the event organizers are really focusing on making it not just a race, but providing atmosphere with food and music. This is why I like CX some much more than road!
  • Some FAST courses
  • Fewer double weekends, especially through Oct.
  • Better race schedule; Manitowoc race; More races with event-like atmosphere
  • Cat 4 starting time mirroring the Chicago series.
  • Lots of races.
  • the time the masters raced
  • Lots of races to choose from.
  • more dirt
  • Removing men from racing at the same time with 123 women was a very good choice. Makes the race much safer and more fun.
  • I liked the compact nature of the racing calendar. In Wisconsin it’s silly to continue the season into December. I liked the speed with which results were posted, both at the race venues and on the USA Cycling website.
  • Quality of courses were better
  • First one for me – loved it!
  • nothing, broke my foot
  • Manitowoc race was a great race and no I’m not affiliated with the organizers
  • Each venue put unique spin on the race. Food tents and vendors local to the area were a nice touch.
  • the weather was pretty good for the most part
  • As my 1st season, I liked how the entire schedule was laid out ahead of time and adhered to. VERY easy to follow and no unpleasant surprises.
  • Many races
  • I liked the courses.
  • That I was recovered from a crash the year prior to race! CX rocks!
  • Supercup and daily schedule of races was better than 2014
  • Weather conditions made several races epic.
  • It was my first season. Wish I would have started racing cross sooner.
  • My team! Rain at Sun Prairie and Halloween
  • My first season, so no comparison
  • fun courses
  • That there was new venues and locations such as Oshkosh we need to have races around the state more. Green Bay, LaCrosse, this is good for the sport of CX and for Wisconsin
  • Supercup, but how to get my cash prize?
  • Good variety of courses.
  • It got me hooked, so great job!
  • Weather
  • Humboldt addition
  • It was my first!
  • More locations near Madison
  • Pumpkin CX and Sun Prairie cup was a blast and great venues.
  • As a cat three, I had great race time options
  • I love it all
  • The race schedule
  • More events in the general Milwaukee area
  • Single speed after masters
  • Fun. Good courses. Fun weather!
  • Fun.
  • diversity of courses
  • The schedule allowed for easy doubling up as a master 3. Moving the masters race to the end of the day would likely impact the number of races I participate in for the coming season. Traveling more than an hour to every race and having the the last race of the day just wouldn’t keep the peace at home for me.
  • Masters 1/2/3 race race time
  • Higher participation in P123 than recent years.
  • Mud
  • Schedule
  • Places of racing.
  • The addition of 4 into masters 1/2/3/4.
  • I had fun, great people, fun courses, nice prizes…
  • Beer at races, party atmosphere
  • Courses were all awesome. Events were all well organized and ran.
  • The Rev cycling team killed it. They know how to have fun and get people involved. They are good about welcoming all skills and levels.
  • The Super Cup and grass roots series!!!!! Love that structure!
  • super races
  • Awards right after final race, more MKE races, weather was better
  • Lots of races
  • Loved everything about WCA races! Course quality is fantastic compared to other nearby series.
  • better courses overall this year
  • Course variety improvements
  • I liked the muddy races, new venue for Velocause and Manitiowoc
  • Every race I attended
  • I like that the season ended earlier.
  • race schedule and daily schedule; nice weather (mostly)
  • Women’s masters.
  • Bragging rights and super cup divisions
  • Manitowoc and Super races that could for state points
  • Lake Geneva, Manitowoc, Grafton, Sun Prairie, and Waterloo courses were incredible and put all other race courses to shame this year. Great competition. One sandbagger – he made us all try harder, so no complaint here. Great atmosphere at all races. All races with beer gardens should be held at the beginning of the season when it is warm. Crossshoosko course running through the neighbors yards was awesome! Having awards immediately after Waterloo was a great idea and it looked like it worked out great! Courses I listed here were amazing with great variety of terrain and were very challenging. I know putting on a race and finding a venue is tough, but we need to strive to find more venues like these.
  • Good courses
  • Great courses, as always.
  • Variety of venues
  • Super Cup and other mellow races
  • Took Men’s SS out of the Women’s 1/2/3 slot. More difficult SuperCup courses!
  • weather was good
  • The attendance at races
  • Great venues!
  • The date for state was awesome.
  • My wife and my races were close together
  • First year, learning how to race CX
  • Masters was before P12 and single speed. Super cup races seemed bigger (but I’m not sure if that came at the expense of the non-sc races)
  • amped up attendance
  • Saturday races
  • I liked that pre registered riders were consistently called up in all races. I think that was more sporadic in 2014.
  • State champs race date
  • Size of the fields length of the courses. Features on the courses.
  • Course layout seemed to have a bit more imagination this year. The masters race schedule allowed for real life events after the race and did not “take up” the whole day.
  • 1) In general, I liked the idea of the Super Cup…it felt like it drew the best racers to each event. 2) The Super Cup weekends didn’t overlap with other big regional races (UCI C1/C2s)
  • Courses in WI are always great
  • Venues
  • The weather!
  • I enjoyed the overall quality and technicality of the courses this year.
  • Courses and good job by the local race officials
  • Great Buzz & Growing Enthusiasm Around CX
  • Plenty of races within reasonable distance of my hiuse
  • Prizes were pretty good for some of the races.
  • New Schedule, improved race experiences all around
  • The grouping of the races that were close together.
  • Great vibes for the most part! Last year being my first cross season was much better than past road seasons.
  • Not enough MSN races
  • good mix of races/courses
  • Good schedule.
  • weather made courses interesting
  • It was my first season.
  • awesome venues
  • Supercup
  • It’s CX, what is not to like
  • More races available and a longer season to help get closer to late season big races like Jingle and Nationals
  • More challenging
  • Quality of women’s fields
  • Good atmospheres
  • off weekends linded up with big out of state races.
  • Weather was awesome this year
  • the two tier race recognition. better events given best dates and doubling the points.
  • New races like flyover with great natural terrain.
  • The women’s 1/2 didn’t race at the same time as the single speed racers
  • Split schedule
  • All the riders and event crews.
  • Able to race both Masters Cat1/2/3/4 and Masters Cat 4/5 in the morning.
  • grass roots schedule
  • the time masters started
  • I liked the separate cups, however some of the super cup courses were lacking in development. I would like to see a certain course criteria that makes a course a supercup race. Supercup courses should be the best courses in the wca.
  • Had a great time at the races I attended.
  • great courses .. moving to Masters 123 next year so loved the time slot, hope you dont change it, cannot race the late slot next year
  • First season, had a blast
  • Schedule allowed master and ss race to be raced back to back with time to change bike and refuel
  • The Wisconsin competition is great
  • better choices
  • Great venues.
  • Great courses, more races outside Madison/Milwaukee, reasonable entry fees
  • More turn out
  • Great weather, good events.
  • Cat 4 masters could race with 1/2/3 masters..
  • The racing
  • Race venues
  • Better courses
  • Competition
  • The weather was better
  • The variety of weather conditions.
  • First year living in Wisconsin, so first season in the WCA. Loved it. Had been racing in the OVCX for years, so this year was a bit different. Smaller fields and a different season schedule was a change. Loved the races like Velocause CX, TBD CX, State Champ with great courses and fun atmosphere that encourages everyone to stay for an all-day event. Loved when the race promoters used social media to provide race/course info and build excitement for the event. Can’t wait for the 2016 season!
  • The opening Manitowoc race
  • Great atmosphere and friendly people
  • We had very good weather
  • Loved the split into “Supercross” & “Bragging rights”! Loved the new races! Greg is great!
  • Ability to enter 4 races each event.
  • The M1234 category

What didn’t you like about the 2015 WCA Cyclocross Series

Cat. 4 schedule

  • Cat 4 at end of day. Would prefer it in the morning especially in regard to supporting teammates.
  • Felt the field size was down in cat 4 due to being last race of the day
  • that the cat 4 was the last race, make the elites the last so people stay all day and watch, more fans. Everyone dips after the elites
  • Cat 4 scheduling
  • I liked when the master 4’s race was close in time to the open 4’s race so I could race both.
  • Being a 32 year old cat 4 racer, I’m only able to enter 1 race and being the last event of the day prevented and discouraged me from attended events. Please adjust the scheduling or create another class for us to race during the day. This would help in keeping cat 4 races involved in the sport and grow the sport
  • cat. 4 race at the end of the day
  • Having cat 4 as the last race
  • Cat 4 at end of day.
  • cat 4 end of day
  • Cat 4s at the end of the day, everyone was gone for them, that definitely decreased # of racers in the pipeline
  • cat 4 open at end of day
  • Cat 4 being the end of the day
  • Being at the end of the day.
  • The gap between master 4 and open 4. I raced less due to this
  • 4/5 race was at the end of the day.
  • Cat 4 was hours after masters cat 4
  • The open 4 category scheduled at the end of the day

Masters Racing

  • Masters 123 and Cat3 back to backCat 4 time scheduling. Being too young for masters I was only able to race 1 race and it was very late in the day. Please address
  • Has never been as much fun since splitting up the older masters into cat 4 and cat 1-3.
  • There used to be a Cat 3 55+ points category. That did not exist in 2015. Also, there were too many races where it was bragging rights only. I will race very few of those in 2016 if they exist.
  • starting masters age categories together – they should each have their own start (could be a 1 minute apart, but the key is “apart”)
  • I wish there was a Masters 3/4 field instead of a 4/5 field, as the road season is. Cat 5s should only have one option to race and should be encouraged to upgrade. There should also be a step that’s a bit easier for cat 4s upgrading to 3 than open or racing against 1s & 2s
  • 4) Moving the M123 race to the morning was a negative, 5) Including cat 4 into the M123 races caused a lot of issues with lap traffic, etc. (more needs to be done to improve the racing…there were several situation where race placing were impacted by lapped riders),
  • having masters 1,2 3 4 all together and being a cat 3 or 4 scored against cat 1 and 2. would like it to be broken into 1 2 overall and 3 against 3s.
  • Start time of masters
  • Safety issues in Masters 1234 races due to 1) field sizes, 2) speed discrepancy 3) not being able to preview extended race courses. Splitting the series into Super Cup and Bragging Rights did not produce the promised outcomes. Results were slow in being posted.
  • 45 min racing–let’s (the Masters) do 60 min.
  • the open course before the masters 123 race

Race location

  • Having 2 Madison (or Milwaukee) area races on the same weekend was a very bad idea and definitely limited the number of races I could enter.
  • All races were in the southern part of the state. It is the Wisconsin Cyclocross series, not the southern Wisconsin cyclocross series. Please reach out and work with getting races in different areas, such as Wausau, Green Bay, and eau Claire for example.
  • Most races were in the southern part of the state.
  • Only one cx race in Madison. Would like to see even the olde USGP Angel Park in Sun Prairie come back as a race for WCA even.
  • Still not sure about the Sat/Sun pairing. I wondered numerous times if it actually thins out the fields. OVCX rarely did this (outside of UCI events) and it seemed like bigger turnouts when promoters join together to put on really strong single events rather than a greater number of less-attended events. Also would love to see more dedicated course that the weather conditions do not cause race cancellations
  • too many double races, sat and sun.
  • Less back to back days later in season.
  • Too many events on Saturdays
  • Too many MKE races

Sandbaggers

  • sandbag gets that need to upgrade
  • Sandbaggers everywhere. Look at the cat 4 masters state results. The amount of cheating is insane.
  • People are racing down in category either to warm up for another race or grab the prizes. Same guys every week. Needs to stop!!!! I see guys racing for the 5th year in cat 5 beginner. Discourages the true beginners!!!
  • The race schedule and the complete failure to monitor and enforce MANDATORY upgrades for racers.

Race Organization

  • Prizes at some events (including some Super Cup events) were pathetic.
  • Call-ups are still a mess. By allowing people to BUY call-ups (pre-registration) instead of EARNING them (competition), you have created a situation where almost everyone pre-registers and it takes forever for the USA Cycling officials to stage them. And why do we continue to treat Masters 1/2/3/4 as if it were just Masters 1?
  • The prize money for cat1/2/3 was too small which made fields smaller. Cat 3s maybe should have prizes not cash, that keep them from be incentivized to stay in the 3s
  • The Super Cup payouts were never done! Don’t post prizes if you are not going to pay them! This is BS and should never happen.
  • End of year awards podiums and cash mailed
  • Super cup
  • Season party and state champ awards were not delivered. There was no Supercup payout and no state champ medals or jerseys awarded. What is going on?
  • Awards after races were never at the same time. Halloween cross didn’t do awards because of the rain.

Courses and Venues

  • I didn’t like the fact that there weren’t any more new courses than there were. I think that adding new courses will breath new life into the series and attract more racers.
  • Velocause course was super fun and challenging but race promoters needed more organization. Some courses were not designed with safety in mind – sun prairie cup had too much off camber and sections with burms that caused an injury. Consider some kind of clinic or training for new race promoters? Something that would help make more consistency with organization and safety among races. Also, the TBD course was the worst
  • TBD course sucks. Season ends too early for Jingle Cx (normally) and nationals attendees
  • Sheboygan needs more effort
  • The results for CamRocks Cross did not get entered for points in the Bragging Rights category.
  • Crosshoosko and Humbolt park were brutally bumpy – I felt like I had been in a car accident at the end of the weekend. Something needs to be done to smooth out the surface. I will probably skip those two races and hit Chicago if they are not smoothed out next year. TBD race in Madison was a crappy course and I will skip it next year. I skipped Sheboygan this year because it was such a bumpy-crappy-bumpy course in 2014.
  • Estabrook Cross: Weird course: Not so great atmosphere besides beer garden, but I’m only 16: and sponser Rainbow Jersey had little to none presence.
  • Courses had TOO MANY advanced technical features. This is local racing, not world championships…..and I don’t have a motor in my bike either. 🙂
  • Some races were not ready when racers were warming up. Also awards ceremony’s were delayed.

Season Length

  • It eventually ended.
  • Having State Championships during opening weekend of deer season
  • season was so brief, started way too early
  • Would like season to start even earlier.
  • It ended too soon, I would like to see state later in the year similar to 2011 when state was in december right before regionals
  • ended too early
  • Season was finished before Thanksgiving.
  • I wish the season was longer! Snow! Ice! Cold!
  • Ended way too early
  • It was shortened, it used to go into December.
  • I wanted the season to be longer
  • I wish the season was longer
  • 3) The season ended before Thanksgiving and for people going to Nationals, that leaves a six- to seven-week hole in the schedule that is very hard to train through
  • Ended early

Daily Race Schedule

  • cx3 and ss schedualed for the same time. can we race ss in the morning half, or first / last race of the day.
  • not enough time separation given between starts of divisions.
  • M35/3 so close to cat 3/ss.
  • starting the cat 3 women with cat 1 and 2 (I upgraded this past year) and no points for junior girls (just let me race against the boys)
  • Ss race unrideable for women 1/2/3
  •  I also think that the P12 race should be earlier in the day before most of the other races. It allows for people to put 100% into the hardest race while still allowing for those racers to participate in other categories like juniors, single speed, and masters events.
  • Having to race at the end of the day, if you want to grow the sport try not having entry level events last
  • Cat 3 and singlespeed raced concurrently.
  • Time gap between Masters Women and Women 1/2/3 races made it difficult to double up.
  • The single speed race is at the same time as the cat 3 race, the majority of single speed racers are men of the 2-4 category why not put it during the womens race? it doesn’t make sense to have it the same time as the category of its majority group. So many races makes each race less special why not boil it down and hype up each race to get a better turn out for each race?
  • The two hour gap between my races
  • Single speed was before P12
  • single speed race too early in the day
  • The daily race lineup. I like the new lineup better
  • Race Times
  • Time schedules
  • Don’t like the SS coming before the P/1/2 field. SS should be incooperated into the Cat 4 field to allow the most people to participate

SuperCup and Local Race Series

  • 1) The Super Cup was consisted of too few of races, 2) The Super Cup did not allow for any “drop” races (I was on a family vacation that was planned well before the CX season schedule was posted and I missed the first race of the series…which basically eliminated me from contesting the overall),
  • 6) There weren’t enough races in the Super Cup, there should be nine and allow two drop races.
  • I didn’t care for the supercup V’s grassroots series designation. The races we raced because the race was close and it was A good event regardless of designation.
  • The two tier races, as in supercup and bro. All races should be the same. Focus on growing the sport by gaining new/younger riders.
  • Not enough Supercup’s.
  • Not counting all races in the championship
  • I did not like the two points series. i think it de-emphasized the non championship races. One suggestion is to keep all races eligible but increase the points by 1.5 times the normal points for the super cup races.
  • super cup vs grassroots races, have one series
  • Not sure if the Supercup worked this year – it had no bearing on my decision to do a race this season.
  • points only at 6 races

Other

  • The number of participants. The series needs to do a better job attracting Chicago and MN racers. The series needs to stop having so many events the overlap with Chicago Cup races.
  • I thought it was very good, nothing to complain about from me.
  • Nothing – I had a blast this past season.
  • Podium needs an upgrade
  • I spilled some of my PBR hand-up at Badger Prairie
  • Cleaning my bike after State!
  • I couldn’t attend as many as I wanted to
  • It’s a great series.
  • lack of mechanical doping checks for all racers before and after every race.
  • Suffering, oh wait that is why I do it.
  • Some of the courses weren’t as challenging as they could have been.
  • The list is long but we have so many people that can’t laugh and have a good time. Not one of you is going big time so have some fun. Wear less spandex
  • A lack of a fun heckle filled atmosphere compared to previous seasons.
  • Still need tougher course obstacles in some instances
  • Not enough mud!
  • I was out of shape
  • Nothing. It was a great season.
  • Too many people taking it way too seriously
  • I didn’t train more : )
  • many venues-lack of organization around podiums after the race
  • Breaking my ribs
  • I wasn’t as fast as I thought I was. 🙁
  • It’ s not year round and lacks a fat bike category.
  • Living in Chicago and not being closer to this series haha
  • Sucks that after the masters races are over the race venues are deserted – looks like the new schedule should fix that(Great Idea!). More needs to be done to get kids racing! We are way too masters heavy! Estabrook park would be better in the early season when it is warm.
  • I’d like to see the courses be made wider (per UCI type rules). Other than that, I just plain old like CX.
  • Some races lacked any atmosphere
  • I thought the quality of courses were sub-par, obviously a few of them were great, outlined above. I wish there were more participants in certain categories.
  • Cyclocross is way tougher than I would have ever imagined.
  • prize money for women’s field
  • Reduction if payouts for pros. It’s not racing to get rich, but when 2nd place doesn’t even get their entry fee back that’s weak in my opinion.
  • payouts needed to be decreased for the non-supercup races
  • Too much mud
