The State Championship weekend of races will be the final road races of the 2016 season, and will take place August 13-14. The weekend will include the three individual championship events – time trial, road race, and criterium – as well as an omnium championship.
Time Trial: The weekend of racing will kick off Saturday morning with an individual time trial in the Cottage Grove area, with the first category of racers starting at 8:15 am.
Road Race: After the morning time trial, racers will head to the Middleton area for the road race, with the first category of racers starting at 12 pm on the challenging and championship-worthy course. Staging will take place at Sunset Elementary School in Middleton.
Criterium: The weekend of racing will conclude on Sunday with a spectator-friendly criterium in downtown Middleton. The course features 8 corners, an uphill section, and a wide open, flat finish in front of the Capitol Brewery.
Omnium: In order to compete for the overall championship omnium, you must compete in all three individual championship events. In addition, all omnium competitors must do the individual time trial “Merckx” style. In other words, all bikes must be mass-start legal according to USAC rules, including drop-style handlebars. No clip-on aero bars or rear disk wheels will be permitted. Aero helmets are permitted.
Awards Ceremony & End-of-Season Party: After the criterium, an awards ceremony (for the championship events as well as for the WCA road series awards) and end-of-season party will be held at the Capitol Brewery in downtown Middleton.
More Information: Race flyers and course maps are available from the USA Cycling web site and the WCA web site. A race bible will be available sometime in July with more details about the championship weekend of races, local lodging discounts, restaurant recommendations, etc.
Make sure the weekend is on your calendar as we expect it to be a great weekend of racing!
