The Wisconsin Cycling Association (WCA) seeks to develop the sport of cyclocross racing in Wisconsin into a vibrant, quality series that draws racers from around the region.
This document lists the rules and regulations for the WCA Cyclocross Series and shall remain in effect until modified.
Series Costs & Benefits:
Costs:
- Team registration or Race Director license with USA Cycling
- Team registration with Wisconsin Cycling Association
- USA Cycling Race Permit and Insurance
- WCA Rider Fees ($2/ entry)
Benefits of joining the series:
- Usual rider turnout of 250-300 riders per day of racing
- Assistance in securing race course location
- Increased event prestige
- Overall Series prize list
- Technical support from the WCA CX Committee to assist with course design and logistics
- Use of cyclocross-specific equipment (barricades, staking, signage, ribbons, etc.) owned by the WCA
- Advertising and posting of results on the WCA website
- Posting of Series overall results on the WCA website
- Support with computer-generated registration and results
WCA Cyclocross Committee Responsibilities:
- Provide trophies for Overall points classification (3 places except Elite 4, Masters 4, Elite 5 & Masters Women Open)
- Provide Series Standings, posted online following each event
- Post results at www.usacycling.org
- Pursue and secure Series sponsorship
- Maintain WCA Cyclocross website, including schedule, standings, links, and content
- Provide technical coordination and assistance
- Provide start/finish flags
- Provide professional Neutral Race Support
Race Director Responsibilities
- All items listed in “Series Costs”
- Submit a course plan and race flyer to the Cross Committee no later than 90 days prior to race date. The Committee will either approve or return to the Promoter for corrections or physical examination of the race site
- Hold current Wisconsin Cycling Association club membership by April 2
- Confirm inclusion in WCA series by May1 of the season year to the WCA Cyclocross Committee (Jerry Pearce jjpearce@wi.rr.com)
- Complete the online USA Cycling race permit application by eight weeks before race day
- Secure a venue with necessary features for a cyclocross course as well as appropriate facilities for registration, bathrooms, adequate parking, and water source. If possible an enclosed and heated building for registration is preferred
- Use WCA Series Race Schedule(below) for classes/categories and start times
- Provide at least the minimum prize list shown in the WCA Race Day Schedule (below)
- Create a medical plan, which may be as simple as calling 911 for emergencies. WCA strongly recommends having first-aid supplies on site (wound-cleaning, bandages) and someone with at least basic first-aid certification
- Call riders for pre-race staging in the following order:
- First eight in Series overall points
- All others
- Hold a podium ceremony immediately after each race
- Use USA Cycling online pre-registration
- Pay WCA surcharges in full at the conclusion of the event – failure to do so will incur a $250 fine and possible exclusion in subsequent WCA CX Series schedules

The WCA Cyclocross Race Series will score overall series points for the following categories:

Race Start Times, Entry Fees and Race Duration
- Warm-up time on the course will be allowed between races
- There should be NO cash prizes in the Elite and Women’s Category 4, Elite 5, Masters Cat. 4 and Juniors races
- Entry fees shall include all USAC surcharges, WCA fees and any other fees charged to event organizers by local entities
- Entry fees do not include any Park admission fees or late entry fees, which may be added at the discretion of the event organizers

Larger and deeper cash prize lists are encouraged. Higher cash prizes will encourage higher caliber racers to attend events.
Individual Series Points
- WCA Cyclocross points awarded per Race (Place-Pts. awarded): 1st-20, 2nd-17, 3rd-15, 4th-14, 5th-13, 6th-12, 7th-11, 8th-10, 9th-9, 10th-8, 11th-7, 12th-6, 13th-5, 14th-4, 15th-3, 16th-2, 17th-1, 18th-1, 19th-1, 20th-1
- Riders will be scored toward an overall series point total. Total includes all races in the Series. Ties will be decided by head-to-head results; CX Committee/officials decisions are final.
Team Series Points
- Team Series Points comprise the points earned by each rider who is a licensed member of a WCA member team.
- Riders using one-day licenses are not licensed team members.
Category Upgrades will be done according to USA Cycling rules. Juniors are not subject to the “Mandatory Upgrade” rule.
